The most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they can be great in whatever they want to do.

Two Words That Describe Anissa:
DRIVEN & PASSIONATE

As an NCAA athlete in swimming and water polo, fitness and training have always been important for my personal growth and performance. What really drilled it home was experiencing a knee injury in high school and a shoulder injury in college. I realized that I had never properly been coached on injury prevention and strength training that would help stabilize my body and support my athletic performance. Through my time in physical therapy and the emphasis they put on my form, I realized how important it was and I grew stronger and more competitive as a result. In addition to injury, I experienced digestive health struggles and had to be retaught what nutrition I really needed to meet my maximum performance. It was no longer just "carb-loading" the night before, but conscientious choices that would prepare my body to perform in the immediate and short term.

My experience pushed me into coaching because I didn't want other young athletes to wait and learn the hard way on how to best take care of their bodies. I have been fortunate enough to coach high school and collegiate athletes for over twenty years, focusing on overall wellness (mental, physical and nutritional) to best develop young people to live long-term healthy and active lives. I met Kolleen when I coached her oldest daughter on our swim team at Cambridge High School and she said she wanted to help with the strength programming, so Core57 and Cambridge swim and dive have had a close relationship since about 2014. With the help of the trainers at Core57, we have consistently low injury rates and greater time and performance improvement as a result of our training, and we've been putting state championship rings on kids every year for over eight years.

I have been a teacher at Cambridge since the building opened in 2012. I started the swim and dive program there and continue to be their head coach. I am also a social studies teacher and department chair in the building. I came to Georgia after fulfilling my commitment to Teach for America and earning my masters degree from the Johns Hopkins University. My husband, Adam, and I moved to Alpharetta after living in the city and have been here since 2011. We have three children: Charlie, JoJo, and Ida. All three children love coming to Core57 and think "mommy is so strong." I have worked out through all three pregnancies at Core57, where I was able to maintain my fitness and build the strength I needed for labor and recovery. I am very excited to join the team and help our clients meet their personal fitness goals. I am NASM personal training certified and look to expand that into various other areas that will help support our clients' needs.
