Semi-Private Sessions: A Workout Tailored to You

For CORE57 member Tracy Lopresti, finding the best workout style has been a journey. As her body and options have changed over the years, so has her exercise regimen. With the flexibility, individualization, and focused attention of CORE57’s semi-private workout sessions, Tracy’s found an option she always has time for and will never age out of.

"I come from an endurance and cardio background,” says Tracy. “I was a runner for years. When my knees gave out eventually, I found cycling and loved Flywheel. When Flywheel closed, I was forced to find an alternative.

I was nervous to lift weights for fear of injury. For my first year at CORE57, I took a variety of large group classes, but never semi-private sessions because I didn't fully understand the added value. Based on other members’ positive feedback, I decided to buy a pack of semis when they went on BOGO sale. I’ve never looked back!”

What To Know About Semi-Private Workout Sessions:

The format

In our semi-private sessions, there are four members to one trainer. Some sessions are double-taught, meaning four members stay with their trainer, but there are technically two sessions happening at once. This guarantees consistency with instruction and maximum attention paid to each member.

Our membership offers are based on how many semi-private sessions each person chooses to do each month — five, nine, or thirteen. Most members add unlimited large group classes to supplement their semi-private schedule.

The Timing

We offer these sessions every day of the week from early morning to afternoon to evening to accommodate as many different schedules as possible. Members can attend 1-3 semis each week, depending on their goals and current status.

The Workout

In each session, members get a full body strength workout tailored to their goals, strengths, and limitations. Our workout framework includes all movement patterns: an upper body push, an upper body pull, a quad dominant movement, a hinging movement for the posterior chain, and functional core work.

The Individualization

While you may see some of the same exercises as in large group classes, the level of coaching here is much higher. The trainer is suggesting weights and tailoring exercise variations to the individual. Coaching is more hands-on, and specific workouts are added or subtracted to fit the client's needs. Most importantly, there is a tremendous focus on tracking progression. This is why members who participate in semis most frequently garner the best results, significantly more than those who don't.

To give an example of the individualization, one member may be doing a barbell deadlift at the higher level of difficulty, while another member who’s rehabbing a back injury does a glute bridge. Both members are working the same muscle groups, just in different ways. We have a lot of golfers, in which case, these clients are getting extra mobility and rotational work in their programming.

We keep detailed client notes in our staff app, where trainers read about who’s on their roster, what muscle groups need extra work, and where modifications need to be made. These notes are updated frequently, so we can stay abreast of any changes and progress each client appropriately.

Why Tracy Stuck with Semis

“Some of the exercises may be the same, but with the added one-on-one focus, specific exercises tailored to me and my needs, and my trainer's attention to safely progressing my weight and exercise variation, I have improved exponentially in all areas that carry over into my large group classes.

I am very limited in the amount of time I have for exercise, and I’m mindful of the need to focus on weight bearing exercises as I age. Semis are incredibly efficient and have been one of the best tools in helping me stay healthy in less than half the time I used to spend running and spinning. And as an extra bonus, I have no knee pain!"
